Well, it's 2007 and that means restaurants are about the experience the most depressing season of the year. Who wants to eat out when you've got the battle of the bulge to contend with? All of Vancouver, that's who. Yes, brace yourselves for Dine Out, a three week celebration of all that restaurants have to give for between $15 and $35 for three courses. Monday saw the kick off party, attended by pr gals (pictured) restauranteurs, wine reps, and media. If you're gunning for a cheap meal at any top restaurant in the city, you might want to pick up a bottle of VQA wine to ease your pain. Last year at Lumiere we dealt with 200 emails a day, not to mention the phone calls and attempted walk ins. Maybe that's why they're not participating this year?

The comforts of Home

Friday night saw Vancouver fashion and design heavyweights throw the best Christmas party ever. Personal highlights for me were

1. the chocolate buffet courtesy of Green and Black's organic chocolates
2. Emily Ziff behind the bar, looking deadly gorgeous
3. Getting to wear that velvet vintage dress that hardly ever gets a chance to go out on the town.

Homemade is a joint effort between Fluevog, Cause+Affect, Jorg&Olif, Twice Shy and Pyrrha, all top Vancouver businesses changing the way we think about fashion and design. These are all young, smart, fashionable change makers. Word is that Homemade is going to be a recurring event, so keep your eyes peeled for the next one.

Mac Daddy

My parents brought me my new Macbook this weekend. It came all the way from Alberta so I could save on the PST (which when you run your own business, can make a big difference to your shopping budget).

Wow do I love my new laptop. Not only can I work wirelessly from everywhere, but I can also amuse myself for hours with this little iSight camera those super smart apple designers have added. I should be working on a press kit right now, but instead I'm doing this.......

I'm also watching the American Music awards, which judging by Gwen Stefani's performance, pretty much sum up everything that is wrong with American society today. And just how does Nicole Ritchie have boobs like that when she doesn't eat? And why on earth is her dad doing a comeback tour? It's like a car crash right now. No Lionel, for the love of god button your shirt up! Stop spreading your arms, you can't fly, it is the drugs, and velvet pants are not good on anybody.

That's it, he's singing that Fiesta All Night Long song, and I'm going back to work.

Bigger IS Better

I don't get to do many art PR projects in Vancouver. That's probably because I don't get excited very often about the art events going on here. Don't get me wrong, I love the CAG, the VAG, the TAG, and Monte, but as far as art 'events' in town - they're few and far between. This is why I am so excited (and working my ass off to promote) the work of local mammoth painter Charles Forsberg. No one in Vancouver is producing work like this, which is why it is so important that people come out and support this amazing show. Giant paintings are going to be on display in an East Van warehouse space, and for one night, it's actually going to feel like this city has a major, legitimate, big city art scene instead of a safe, photo based, institution led strangle hold. Support your independent painters, starting Thursday November 23rd.

New York New York

You know what they say "third time's a charm". Never has that rung so true than last week in New York. George and I did it all. We went to Letterman (Julia Louis Dreyfus from Seinfeld was the guest) we saw Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre. We dined in Soho, NoHo, Chelsea and the East Village. We even made it to a Matthew Marks MOMA after party, and I crashed a Baby Phat shindig (Kimora Lee Simons actually looks pretty good in person). Notable highlights include a trip to the New York Botanical Garden to see the Chihuly install. Visiting Graham Gillmore in his Chelsea Emergency Arts studio. And photographing strange and exotic pastries.

So many Chihulys and they fit right in your pocket!

Graham shows us his latest work

I try to scare Erin in a tunnel.

Damn, my birthday was weeks ago, otherwise this would have been mine.
